UPDATED: Motorcycles stolen from Beaver Valley business

RCMP say two motorcycles worth over $22,000 have been stolen from a business outside of Fruitvale.

Officers were called Saturday morning about the theft of two blue Yamaha off-road bikes from Glacier Edge Motorsports at 1470 Highway 3B.

The theft occurred between 4:19 and 6:22 a.m., according to information received from the business.

Officers seized evidence from the scene and will review surveillance footage. A gray truck (pictured below) and two suspects are believed to be involved in the crime.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information that will lead to the suspects is asked to contact the Trail detachment.

“This is a local small business, and this theft has hit them hard financially,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in a news release.

Car crashes, burns near Genelle

A 49-year-old man is expected to face charges after his car crashed and burned near near Genelle on Saturday morning.

Police say he suffered minor injuries after his 2016 Chevrolet Malibu went off the road, rolled down an embankment, and hit some trees before catching fire.

Police say they will be requesting charges against the man, who will appear in court July 20.

These weren’t the drugs I was looking for …

Police say they received a report about a distressed 36-year-old Nelson woman who bought the wrong kind of drugs while visiting Trail.

She was located in the 1100 block of Bay Avenue and told an officer she believed she had purchased cocaine, but received some other drug and wasn’t used to its effects.

The woman’s symptoms escalated into severe psychosis and paranoia and she ran onto a busy roadway in the officer’s presence. The officer took the woman to hospital for treatment.

“The police are dealing with some extraordinary situations in the new era of decriminalization,” Wicentowich said. “Though it may appear obvious to most, drugs purchased from illegitimate sources are dangerous and can lead to death.”

Impaired by drugs

Police say a 26-year-old Fruitvale man was issued a 24-hour roadside ban after being spotted leaving a bar and speeding along Highway 3B. They believe he was on drugs.
