Teck begins major maintenance shutdown this month

Every four years Teck Trail Operations does a major maintenance shut down and it will be starting again this month. The company says it will entail an investment of $55-million.

It involves a number of different contract companies and 800 contract employees on top of Teck’s staff. A full safety management team, employee training and development of specialized equipment and job site procedures are part of the process as well.

General Manager Thompson Hickey says the work is essential to ensuring the continued economic success and environmental performance of Trail Operations. It will primarily focus on the lead smelter, but there will be maintenance work in other parts of the operation as well.

It’s set to begin mid-September and last until early November.
