Castlegar RCMP spread Christmas cheer to family of four

Castlegar’s RCMP detachment says they are working together to ensure one local family’s Christmas is extra special and filled with cheer.

According to a media release, the chosen family was contacted earlier this year to explain the initiative and address the needs of each family member, as well as their interests.

The initative allows RCMP to contribute money, food items, purchasing gift cards, and other gifts for a sponsored family. Including members of the detachment’s family wrapping gifts for the entire family sponsored.

Acting corporal Kyle Plotnikoff and his family, have been organizing the RCMP-led community initiative for nine years. He says helping a family in need is gratifying and that seeing the smiles when everything is dropped off makes it all worthwhile.

“From the reaction of the parents when dropping off the gifts, we can only imagine how happy the kids will be,” he says.

Community support was also provided through free passes for entertainment and recreational activities.

This year Castlegar RCMP sponsored a family of four, with children 11 years of age and under.
