Rossland residents already know who their mayor is for the next four years. Mayor Kathy Moore won by acclamation on Friday. She says she wants to continue moving the community in the same direction, but things really depend on the council race. “We’ve got 14 people running for council. So while it was the easiest campaign for me in that I had no one opposing me, it will be pretty competitive for those six seats.”
Mayor Moore says having some competition would have been her preference, so that the community had a choice. But, she’s excited for another four years in office and sees work continuing on some of the same priorities for the community. “We got a number of grants, we worked on our infrastructure challenges and we got a lot of those same challenges coming up.”
Communication and public engagement is also something she wants to build on. “Welcoming citizens to city hall and to council meetings so they can feel that they’re participating in their local government. I think that’s really important too and I feel like we did that this last term. I want to continue to communicate with the community; I put out regular news letters try to keep people informed about what’s going on.”
The candidates for council include three incumbents, John Green, Andy Morel, and Andrew Zwicker. The other names in the race are Deke Baley (Derek Baley) Chris Bowman, Caroline Enns, Scott Forsyth, John Lake, Dirk Lewis, Janice Nightingale, Fletcher Quince (Aaron Quince), Richard Solstice, Jill Spearn (Dorothy Spearn), and Stewart Spooner.
