Evacuation Order issued for Renata to Shields Point

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has issued an evacuation order for nine residential addresses from Renata to Shields Point. They say the Bulldog Mountain wildfire has experienced growth. Due to the wildfire activity and conditions, the Southeast Fire Centre has recommended the order as a precaution.

It covers the area from Renata to Shields Point on the southern shore of Lower Arrow Lake including Coykendahl, Brooklyn, and Shields. Residents in the evacuation order must leave immediately and are advised to check in at the reception centre in the Selkirk Room at the Castlegar and District Community Complex at 2101 6th Avenue. All properties affected are being visited by Castlegar Search and Rescue and RCMP.

Those affected can also text RENATA to 778-400-1771 to be added to the Dedicated Emergency Text List. The RDCK Emergency Operations Centre will use this list to send specific instructions and information. It is a text only service and is free, however standard text message rates may apply.

The RDCK says it has issued a local state of emergency in the area due to the Bulldog Mountain wildfire and the imminent threat of it spreading to properties. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
