Selkirk College’s sustainability committee and the environment club have completed an audit of cafeteria waste at the Castlegar campus.
Sustainability coordinator Laura Nessman says it was done to give students an idea of how to do a better job of reducing waste.
She says the audit was eye-opening.
They found 133 disposable cups when sifting through garbage and a lot of water bottles.
Nessman says they’ll start educating students on ways to cut their waste.
She adds students should take advantage of the college’s compost program.
