RDCK director expenses down in 2016

The Regional District of Central Kootenay’s total payroll grew 6.3 per cent in 2016, but its elected officials took home less.

The RDCK paid just over $8 million dollars in salaries last year compared to $7.6 million the previous year.

Twenty-nine employees made over $75,000, up from 27 in 2015. Seven made over $100,000.

Directors and their alternates made a combined $690,000, which was $75,000 less than in 2015.

As recently as 2013, the board paid itself more than $800,000.

Although salaries increased slightly, most directors claimed less in expenses and committee pay.

Rural directors have a base salary of about $33,000 a year and municipal directors $12,000.

The figures are contained in the RDCK’s draft statement of financial information.
