UPDATED: Slocan Valley evacuations reduced

The number of homes on evacuation order in the Slocan Valley has been reduced from 56 to four.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay says only only residents of property on Woykin Road and three on Picard Road are being asked to stay out of their homes.

However, another 67 properties remain on evacuation alert, including those from 2220 to 2987 Slocan Valley West Road, and others on Indian Point Road, Arrow Road, Little Slocan South Road, Passmore Lower Road, Picard Road, and Koch Siding.

It’s following flooding due to a continued rise of the Slocan River.

Several sections of Slocan Valley West road have already been submerged.

A flood watch remains in place for the Slocan River, with the river having reached or exceeded the 20-year return level.

Residents required to leave the affected area were asked to report to the reception centre at the Crescent Valley fire hall.

Access to the evacuation order area is being controlled.
