Westbank Nation seeks reserve status at Fauquier

The Westbank First Nation is asking that a small property it owns at Fauquier be added to their reserve.

Arrow Lakes regional director Paul Peterson says the band has indicated they’ll simply use it for camping.

But he feels public input is needed because reserve status would exclude it from the regional district’s land use plan.

The land was acquired as part of a swap to accommodate the building of Kelowna’s Bill Bennett bridge.

A Sinixt reserve at nearby Oatescott ceased to exist in the 1950s.
