Soldiers of Odin plan Kootenay chapter

A controversial street patrol group wants to start a chapter in the Kootenays.

In a Facebook post, the Soldiers of Odin say they plan to recruit members in Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail.

The group claims it does “prevention walks in high risk areas to help deter violent crime.”

But others call them an anti-immigrant vigilante group with racist views.

The group refuses to talk to reporters, saying they’re not given a fair shake by the media.

RCMP wouldn’t say if the community should be concerned.

But in a statement they said in general they prefer that law enforcement be left to police.

The Soldiers of Odin were founded in Finland in 2015 and a BC chapter appeared last year.
