Selkirk College opens its doors for open house Nov. 13

Selkirk College is inviting prospective students and the public to its Castlegar campus Nov. 13 to explore programs, career paths and campus life.

The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in The Pit at the Castlegar campus. The college said everyone is welcome, including high school students and their parents, people looking to retrain, upgrade or change careers, and anyone curious about the college.

Visitors can talk with instructors and program staff from across the college’s program areas. These include academic upgrading, arts and technology, business, environment and geomatics, health and human services, hospitality and tourism, trades, university arts and sciences, and community education and workplace training.

Staff will also answer questions about admission requirements, financial aid and awards, transfer options, student supports and campus life.

Applications for 2027 are now open, and admissions staff will be on hand to help people apply. Anyone who applies for fall 2027 at or before the open house will be entered in a draw for $500 toward first-semester textbooks.

“Open House is an opportunity for us to welcome prospective students and the community into Selkirk College to showcase what an amazing place we have for advanced learning right here in the West Kootenay and Boundary regions!” said Brier Albano, the college’s vice-president of students and external relations.

Albano said the college wants to show prospective students what hands-on learning can lead to. “We’re excited to share how an education grounded in real-world experience can prepare them for an in-demand career or further studies,” she said.

Registration isn’t required, but people can sign up online for event updates and a reminder.
