NDP’s Steve Morissette re-elected in Kootenay-Monashee

New Democrat MLA Steve Morissette has been re-elected in Kootenay-Monashee, but he will now sit in opposition.

Morissette took about 48 per cent of the vote in defeating Warren Mirko of the Conservatives, who had 37 per cent. Connie Larochelle of the Green Party was third and Stephen Hill of OneBC was fourth.

Morissette was first elected in 2024, succeding Katrine Conroy, who had held the riding under various names and geographic configurations since 2005. The riding has gone to the NDP in every election since 1972, with the exception of 2001, when Sandy Santori won it for the BC Liberals.

Despite trailing most of the night, NDP incumbent Brittny Anderson defeated Conservative Gordon Skulnec in Kootenay Central. She had 39 per cent of the vote, to Skulnec’s 37 per cent. Nicole Charlwood of the Green Party was third and OneBC’s Hunter Corrigal was fourth.
