High streamflow advisory issued for West Kootenay

The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for parts of the West Kootenay.

The warning, issued this morning, includes tributaries around Trout Lake, the Lardeau River, Kaslo, Nakusp, Edgewood, and Fauquier.

The advisory means river levels are rising or are expected to rise, but no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible. The forecast centre said the mountain ranges with heaviest forecast rainfall include the Monashees, Valhallas, and Purcells.

“While the general wet pattern is expected across the region, localized heavier rain, particularly in mountains headwater areas, is possible,” the centre wrote in its advisory.

They added that current modelling suggests the potential for streamflow in some areas to reach five-year highs, including the Lardeau River, Kuskanax Creek at Nakusp, and Inonoaklin Creek at Edgewood.
