Mayor Brian Bogle, new Castlegar council sworn in

Incoming Castlegar mayor Brian Bogle pledged to work “collaboratively with council, city staff, local businesses, community organizations, and residents” as he was sworn into office this week.

Bogle and the rest of council took their oaths on Monday evening. The councillors are incumbent Cherryl MacLeod, who was also named deputy mayor for 2027, incumbent Darcy Bell, and newcomers Chance Boruck, Miguel Godau, Gordon Malcolm, and Merrick Zemp.

Bogle will serve as the city’s regional district director, replacing former mayor Maria McFaddin, who did not seek re-election.

This is the full text of Bogle’s speech:

Thank you for being here tonight. I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust you have placed in me to serve as mayor of Castlegar. Castlegar is more than a city. It is a community built on hard work, kindness, and a shared commitment to making our home a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I’m proud to call this community home and grateful for the opportunity to serve its residents.

As we begin the new term, I am committed to working collaboratively with council, city staff, local businesses, community organizations, and residents. Together we will focus on responsible governance, sustainable growth, strong public services, and creating opportunities for future generations. There will be challenges ahead, but there will also be many opportunities. By listening to one another, respecting different perspectives, and working towards common goals, we can continue to build a vibrant and resilient Castlegar.

I want to thank my fellow council members for their willingness to serve. And I encourage all residents to stay engaged in the life of our city. Your ideas, involvement, and passion are essential to our success. I look forward to serving alongside you and working together to ensure Castlegar remains a community we are proud to call home.

I also want to recognize Cathy and my family for their unwavering support. I could not do this without you. Cathy could not be here tonight in person, but I know she is watching online. Thank you so much for everything you do for me. Castlegar, thank you. And I’m excited for what we will accomplish together.
