Nelson police are giving some details about the latest phone scam.
Businesses have been called by someone claiming to be from a local hydro company saying their power is about to cut off.
They’re told to buy a Pay Power Reload Pack – which is like a pre-paid credit card – at the grocery store and report the serial number back to them.
That’s how the scam caller swindles the cash.
It appears the scammers are playing on the fact the pre-paid cards are called Pay Power Reload – thus wrongly suggesting they are in some way connected with hydro.
