Normality returns to Slocan after Degroot shooting

Everyone is reflecting on the dramatic and tragic events in Slocan in their own way.

This from a local resident with things getting back to normal in the small village after the death of Peter Degroot who police had been searching for since Thursday.

He died after what police have called “an interaction” with a special unit in a cabin Monday afternoon.

Antonia Crossley says regardless of what people think it was a sad ending.

She says during the five-day man-hunt she and her family never felt threatened despite police warnings that Degroot was armed and dangerous.

RCMP have given no details about his death and the matter will be handled by the Independent Investigations Office.

The BC Coroners Office is confirming Degroot was shot by police and is investigating.
