Smoke Eaters issue statement about public safety at games

The Trail Smokie Eaters say they’ll be monitoring things more closely now that they’re aware of an increase in illicit drug use at their games.  Trail RCMP issued a statement this week about finding white powder residue in the public washrooms and encouraged the public to report anything to game staff and security.

The Smokies Director of Hockey and Business Operations Craig Clare says it’s something they’re taking very seriously. “Again, we’re working with our local RCMP, a lot of contact today. Having better communication, really understanding what the statement was all about and relaying that to our security staff, Trail Smoke Eaters staff, to our fans.”

Clare says the games are and will remain a safe environment for families. “This is a family environment and in statements coming out, the RCMP state that this is a safe and fun event for families to come and enjoy and we’re going to continue to work with security and RCMP to make sure it continues that way.”

Clare adds it’s the first time they were made aware of possible drug use at the games. During their discussions with RCMP, it was explained that drug use is affecting all public facilities in the City of Trail and surrounding communities. Trail RCMP believe public awareness will resolve this matter to a significant extent.
