Incumbent Joe Danchuk is running again for Mayor of Montrose. Danchuk has lived in the community for roughly 15 years, but in the Montrose Trail area his whole life. He’s a dad and granpda and wants to continue work ensuring the village remains a vibrant and desirable community for families.
“This last term we negotiated a five year recreation agreement with Trail, so everybody has access to recreation throughout the valley. And right now we’ve been lobbying the government, just met with the ministry on trying to get broadband into our community. We figure, in order to attract young people we really need to get high speed internet here.”
He says one big thing on the horizon is an over $2-million road improvement project. “We’ve got major paving projects ready to go, all contingent on grants. I think there’s real opportunities moving ahead with the government we have in place right now. There’s granting available and I’d like to be part of it for our future.”
Danchuck says as a small community with no industrial tax base lobbying and grants are key.
He’s served two terms as mayor and one as councillor.
