Local radon gas test kits back for analysis

Participants in Castlegar’s Radon Mitigation Pilot Project could receive feedback over the next two months.

This from co-ordinator Brits Swoveland as the 200-plus devices spread across the region have been returned to the BC Lung Association who will analyze the data over the coming weeks.

Swoveland says the results will help them look at the construction dynamics of each home that could help improve safety standards.

Castlegar hopes the information can be used in a report to the province in an effort to change BC buildings codes.

The City is one of many provincial hotspots for natural occurring radon – which can lead to cancer after prolonged exposure.
