A tragedy was averted in the Kootenay River Tuesday thanks to the heroics of a bystander.
An 84 year old man from Glade was fishing near Shoreacres when his boat overturned.
He was wearing a life jacket but was struggling to hold on in the very cold water and was calling for help.

Little says this shows the importance of wearing a life jacket and the need to tell someone where you are and when you’ll be home.
