Total open fire ban in Castlegar

The City of Castlegar is banning all outdoor burning as of today.
Fire Department Deputy Chief Sam Lattanzio explains it includes backyard campfires and fireworks.

Castlegar already has an Open Air Burning Bylaw in place that requires residents to obtain a permit to burn yard and garden waste.

Wildfire crews were fighting a blaze one kilometre west of Castlegar this weekend near Blueberry Creek.

The fire still sits at nearly half a hectare in size.
