SD8 calls for poverty strategy

The Kootenay Lake School Board wants the province to develop a comprehensive poverty reduction strategy.

The district has sent a letter to the B.C. government outlining their concerns and calling for action.

Chair Lenora Trenaman says they’ve had discussions about the issue at more than one committee level with various stakeholders.

Trenaman says child poverty is a concern in districts across the province.

B.C. has the highest child poverty rate in Canada.
