Columbia Basin energy symposium coming to Castlegar

Residents from across the Columbia Basin will gather in Castlegar next spring to discuss the region’s energy future.

Columbia Basin Trust will host RE:Energize, the 2027 Columbia Basin Symposium, from May 6 to 8 at Selkirk College.

The free event will focus on how energy is generated, delivered and used across the Basin, with discussions covering local energy solutions, efficiency and reliability.

“People in the Basin are increasingly interested in energy, energy generation and local energy solutions, and the theme RE:Energize reflects that growing interest,” said Johnny Strilaeff, president and chief executive officer of Columbia Basin Trust. “For more than 30 years, the Trust has hosted a symposium every few years as part of our commitment to engaging residents in meaningful dialogue. We look forward to bringing people together again next spring.”

The three-day symposium will feature expert speakers, interactive sessions and opportunities for residents to connect and discuss energy issues affecting Basin communities.

The event will also include a Renewable Energy Expo and the Basin Renewable Energy Awards, recognizing local achievements in energy generation, innovation, efficiency and leadership.

Participants will have an opportunity to tour the Arrow Lakes Generating Station, a hydroelectric facility jointly owned by Columbia Basin Trust and Columbia Power Corporation.

Local food and live entertainment will also be featured.

The symposium is open to residents of the Columbia Basin Trust region, with registration information and further program details expected to be announced in the coming months.

More information and event updates are available at ourtrust.org/2027symposium.
