Tadanac lane to be named after Crawford family

An unnamed lane in Trail’s Tadanac neighbourhood will soon honour a longtime local family whose property is adjacent to the lane.

City council has given first three readings to a bylaw to call the previously unnamed street Crawford Lane. Sandy Lucchini, the city’s manager of legislative services, said the Crawford family built the home next to the lane, where daughter Margaret Crawford still lives.

Margaret is a retired teacher and longtime community volunteer who was named Trail’s Citizen of the Year in 2018. She also helped to edit the new anthology A Trail to Remember, Vol. II, which came out in June and has already sold out about half of its print run.

Lucchini said the suggestion to name the lane came from neighbours who thought it was fitting. The bylaw still needs adoption.

What is soon to be called Crawford Lane connects Kootenay Street with Cominco Road, formerly Maple Road.

(CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said Margaret Crawford was the granddaughter of the family who built the house.)
