Trail receives $4.5 million grant to twin watermain

The City of Trail will receive over $4.5 million in a provincial infrastructure grant to twin a watermain along Charles Lakes Drive.

The city announced this week that it has been approved for the funding, which it says will create a “critical backup connection” between the city’s water source and distribution network, ensuring uninterrupted service for residents, businesses, and Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

The existing watermain leads from the city’s water treatment facility in Sunningdale. If it fails, most of the city is affected.

The grant, which will cover the entire cost of the project, will relieve pressure on the city’s water reserve. The city submitted its application last September.

Meanwhile, the Village of Montrose is receiving over $2.4 million to replace its 65-year old lower water reservoir and the associated portions of its water distribution system.

They are among 54 projects that have been approved province-wide, totalling more than $152 million.
