Castlegar aquatic centre closing Saturday for maintenance

Get your last laps in before the pool at the Castlegar aquatic centre closes for maintenance for more than a month.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay says the shutdown will begin Aug. 1. The pool will re-open Sept. 14, following the next phase of a roof replacement project that calls for interior work that can’t be done while the pool is open.

“Maintaining our assets through regular maintenance and timely capital improvements, ensures they remain safe, efficient, and reliable for our community,” said Craig Stanley, the regional operations and asset manager. “We understand the temporary closures may cause disruption, and we are thankful for the community’s patience as we work to ensure the facility continues to serve residents well into the future.”

Meanwhile, the arena should soon be back in business. It’s been closed since April 27 to install a new ceiling and insulation, which is expended to improve energy efficiency and extend the life of the arena’s roof.

Ice making is scheduled to begin Aug. 11.
