Construction is set to begin this summer on a new downtown transit exchange in Trail.
BC Transit said in a press release the exchange will be built on Cedar Avenue between Spokane and Portland streets and is expected to be completed this winter.
The project includes six bus bays, three covered bus shelters, six bicycle racks, a washroom for transit operators, upgraded lighting, widened sidewalks, resurfaced pavement, new crosswalks and wayfinding signage.
BC Transit said the exchange will also be built to meet Security Achieved through Functional Environmental Design (SAFE) certification requirements, which aim to improve safety through the design of public spaces.
Businesses will remain open during construction. Construction signage will be posted to help ensure the safety of people travelling through the area and visiting nearby destinations.
The project will cost up to $3.73 million and is funded by the federal, provincial and regional governments.
Trail city council approved the project in January.
