Trail’s historic newspapers digitized

The Trail Museum and Archives and Trail Historical Society have digitized and placed online more than 15,000 historic newspapers.

The run covers Trail’s paper (variously known as the Trail Creek News, Trail News, Trail Daily Bulletin, Trail Daily Times, and Trail Times) from 1896 to 2022, as it grew from a weekly into a daily, then went to down to three times a week and then twice a week. (It is now weekly.)

The papers are available here through UBC Okanagan’s BC Regional Digitized History platform. Papers up to the early 1940s and a few scattered years from the 1970s had already been online for about year and a half.

The Trail Museum has been working with UBC since 2020 and identified the Trail Times collection as possessing extensive research value.

“This collection represents a thorough account of our region’s historical record and documents our social and cultural shifts,” said museum manager Sarah Benson-Lord.

“As staff, we access these collections daily, for both internal research and in response to enquiries we receive. With online access for researchers, journalists, students, authors, historians, genealogists, among many others, the community can connect closer and more intimately with our history.”
