Highway 3B shutdown was part of search for missing Trail man

RCMP have revealed that the closure of Highway 3B between Warfield and Rossland this week was related to their search for a missing Trail man.

Police executed a search warrant Monday morning at 1381/1383 Highway 3B and confirmed today that it was part of their investigation into the disappearance of Mark Konrad. When the property was listed for sale more than five years ago, an ad indicated it was formerly home to a mobile home park and now has two trailers and one single-family home.

Police said in a news release the highway closure was “to ensure the safety of both the public and police officers.”

Last week, police announced they were looking for Konrad and seeking tips from the public. The Southeast District major crime unit has taken over the investigation. Police are calling Konrad’s disappearnace “suspicious,” but haven’t explicilty said whether they believe a crime has been committed.

Konrad, 51, hasn’t been seen since late June 2025. Police didn’t say why it has taken nearly a year for his disappearance to be reported, but they said that in the “absence of any benign explanation,” his absence is cause for concern.

Investigators said in a news release that they are making inquiries in Kelowna, Castlegar, Grand Forks, Warfield, and Trail in Konrad’s disappearance. They ask anyone who was in touch with him last year or has info about his disappearance to contact them at 1-877-987-8477.
