Mobile MRI unit moved at hospital in Trail

A mobile MRI unit has been moved as part of Interior Health’s plans to expand the MRI suite at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail.

On Wednesday, the unit was relocated next to the administration building on the west side of the site.

The health authority says this marks the start of Phase 2 of the project, where a permanent, more accessible MRI suite will be built inside the hospital, including a new 1.5T MRI scanner. The new space will improve access to diagnostic imaging and support patients and families in receiving care closer to home, Interior Health said in a news release.

Patients scheduled for an MRI at the hospital are asked to register at the administration building. Wayfinding signs and staff will provide directions.

Visitors and patients are encouraged to allow extra time when arriving for appointments. MRI services will continue without interruption during construction of the new MRI suite, which is expected to be complete in late 2027 or early 2028.

Once the new suite is completed, the hospital’s capacity will increase from 4,400 scans per year to close to 7,000.
