First phase of Trail hospital parking lot upgrades completed

The first phase of parking lot improvements at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail has been completed on schedule.

Interior Health says the new northwest parking area opened today, including paving, grading, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the safety and accessibility of the parking area.

Lindsay Hetu, chief operating officer for the Kootenay Boundary, thanked the Kootenay-Columbia school district for providing temporary staff parking at J.L. Crowe Secondary during the construction.

“Their support helped keep hospital operations running smoothly while parking capacity was reduced,” she said.

With the reopening of the northwest parking area, this temporary parking arrangement is no longer needed, the health authority said.

Although parking availability at the hopsital has improved, construction of the MRI expansion project continues, with some impacts on parking. To help preserve on-site parking for patients and visitors, downtown staff parking locations and the shuttle service will continue to be available for hospital staff, Interior Health said.

The second phase of the parking lot improvement project will begin in summer 2027.
