Weapons complaint in Salmo leads to one arrest

A school in Salmo was placed under hold and secure Monday while police responded to reports of a man with weapons nearby.

Salmo RCMP said it responded to a report involving threats made toward police by a man who claimed he had weapons and planned to use them at a home downtown.

Due to the nature of the allegations and the proximity to a local school, officers placed the school on hold and secure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Officers then located the man at his home and negotiated with him, eventually resolving the situation without incident. He was then arrested and taken into custody.

“Our officers demonstrated professionalism, patience, and a strong commitment to public safety throughout this incident,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, BC RCMP spokesperson in a press release.

“Through calm communication and measured actions, officers were able to resolve the situation safely, with no injuries and minimal disruption to the community.”

The school returned to normal operations once police determined there was no ongoing risk to public safety.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police said no further information is available at this time.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Salmo RCMP.
