The City of Trail says it’s taking steps to improve safety on a residential street.
The speed limit on Old Waneta Road between DeVito Drive and Highway 22A has been reduced from 50 km/h to 40, and semi-trailers are no longer allowed to use that stretch. Signs have been installed to that effect.
“This measure is intended to discourage heavy commercial vehicles from using Old Waneta Road as a through-route, as the road is not designed to accommodate this type or volume of traffic,” grounds and roads manager Josh Conci wrote in a memo to city council.
Conci said the changes follow a review prompted by “multiple concerns” from residents about the volume of heavy commercial truck traffic and excessive speeds in the area.
Semi-trailers are now expected to use DeVito Drive to enter and exit Highway 3B.
