Castlegar one step closer to a francophone school

Castlegar is one step closer to opening a francophone school with the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF) Board of Directors, a French-language public school board, voting in favour of the application.

Roxelane Bellec, one of the parents leading the cause, says the decision is welcomed news.

“We know it’s just the first step so many more to come before that can be happening but it is a pretty important step, so we are really happy that so far at least they’re voting in favour of it.” said Roxelane.

“While this decision is still conditional and there are several requirements to fulfill, this is a significant step forward for our community.”

If all goes to plan, the school will welcome students in September 2026.

If you have any questions or need more information, the public is urged to email [email protected].

“If anyone is interested in registering their kids in a French school please contact us we’ll be happy to answer any questions that you potentially will have.”

At a francophone school, everything is done in French including recess, transition times and socializing.

There are currently francophone school in Nelson and Rossland, but Roxelane says the distance make them unviable for local families.
