City of Castlegar urges residents to stay informed

In a world where information moves fast, being informed can make all the difference. That’s why the City of Castlegar is encouraging residents to take two simple steps to stay aware, prepared, and connected—when it matters most.

Residents are urged to download Voyent Alert!, a free mobile app—or access it through a web browser—to sign up for real-time emergency alerts based on their chosen locations.

Next, residents are encouraged to sign up for City News, an email subscription that provides updates on City-related news and initiatives.

“We want to make sure residents have the information they need, when they need it most,” said Mayor Maria McFaddin.

“Whether it’s about public safety or City decisions, these tools keep people informed and supported.”

The City says both platforms, which are separate, serve equally important purposes and encourages residents to sign up for both.

Voyent Alert! Emergency Notifications (mobile app or web browser)

The City says the Voyent Alert! platform ensures residents never miss urgent public safety notifications—such as wildfire evacuations, boil water advisories, or extreme weather events.

Subscribers will receive real-time alerts tailored to their specific locations, the ability to add multiple location pins, and helpful visuals like maps, instructions, and evacuation routes.

Residents who have previously signed up for Voyent Alert! do not need to register again. However, the City recommends reviewing your settings to ensure you’re getting the most out of the platform.

City News emails

This platform keeps residents informed about City initiatives and Council highlights – providing timely updates on local decisions and activities.

Subscribers will receive email updates in categories such as:

  • City News & Notices
  • Job & Volunteer Opportunities
  • Bids & Tenders
  • West Kootenay Regional Airport

Click here to sign up for both systems.
