Fruitvale by-election coming up on Saturday

Fruitvale residents will head to the polls on Saturday, April 5, to elect a new councillor.

The position became available after former Councillor Wes Startup was acclaimed as mayor in mid-March. He replaced former mayor Steve Morrisette, who now serves as the Kootenay Monashee MLA.

Three candidates are vying for the position, including Karen Halifax, Terry Skarbo, and Jimmy Swanson.

General voting will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 5 at the Fruitvale Memorial Centre. Preliminary results will be announced later that evening.

Resident electors must produce two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature).

Photo identification is not required, but the identification must confirm both residency and identity.
