The City of Trail has set 34 priorities across seven areas as key initiatives in their 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.
Trail Mayor Colleen Jones says these priorities reflect the city’s commitment to growth, inclusivity and respect for the community’s rich history.
“Some of our key priorities that we’re looking at is core services, we want to make sure that we continue to deliver the essential services such as water, sewer, parks and roads preparedness, these are what makes our community such beautiful place to live in and we want to make sure that our city staff are prepared to do an effective and an efficient job,” said Mayor Jones.
“We are really working towards making sure that they have everything available to maintain that high living standard that we’ve known to become used to in the City of Trail.”
Other highlighted projects include the redevelopment of the downtown 900 Spokane Street and 901 Helena Street.
“We are looking at demolishing that and having a clean slate of land to look at to see what we want to build there in the future.” said Mayor Jones.
As well as a review of downtown parking.
“We’re going to have a really good look and see how we can improve the parking in the downtown area.”
Council has also prioritized renovations to Trail’s Aquatic Centre, exhibition expansion to the local museum, looking into renovations for the Sports Hall of Memory and an airport master plan.
“I know that sounds like a very, very long list of wishes and priorities that we are really focused on our community and making sure that people feel welcome and included in our community and feel safe.” said Mayor Jones.
“As we move forward, we are united in the belief that by working together, we will build a city that is strong, adaptable and a place where everyone feels they belong.”
Jones says the Strategic Plan will complement the up-coming Official Community Plan (OCP) which will be presented to the community in spring.
“These two reports will work together and I think that our residents will really be happy with what we’re bringing forward.”
