Trail’s Emergency shelter received 425 visitors over the seven days of operation so far this winter season.
According to Trail Mayor, Colleen Jones, 16 beds were occupied on the first night and then reached the full 20 bed capacity for several nights following.
“We had one ambulance call during that time and one police call, and there were no overdoses.” said Mayor Jones.
“So it was a very busy time, but very effective.”
While the shelter is currently deactivated, Mayor Jones says that can change quickly.
“We have to wait for Environment Canada to announce that we have hit our target temperature once again of minus 10 overnight, and once we hit that temperature, then we’ll be able to reactivate the shelter so that people can come in and get a bed and have a warm meal,” said Mayor Jones.
“I just really want to thank all the volunteers that helped with the shelter so far, and all the community businesses that have supported us with food and drink as well.”
