Castlegar draft budget open for community input

The city of Castlegar is looking for your feedback on the draft 2024 budget.

The city is looking at a 6.43 per cent tax increase for residential properties and 6.70 per cent for business and light industrial properties.

That equates to $83.89 annually, or approximately $6.99 per month on an average single-detached home tax bill in Castlegar.

The city taxes are only one part of the tax bill, with the city also collecting on behalf of the province, the regional district and school and library levies.

City staff said the 2024 budget addresses some key projects such as Implementing recommendations from the Castlegar Housing Strategy and improving accessibility to the Millennium Park and Ponds Beach.

“The City will continue building the foundation for a prosperous and growing community by putting short and long-term strategies into action,” said Director of Financial Services, Ola Oladele in a release.

“The Draft 2024 Budget ensures the City is financially poised to take advantage of opportunities.”

The full draft budget can be viewed here.

An open house is also scheduled for Jan. 10 at 5 p.m.
