A 34-year-old Trail man is facing charges after police seized guns and drugs in the Gulch.
Police say they responded to a complaint on June 19 of someone using drugs in the 100 block of Old Rossland Avenue.
They detained the man and found a handgun holster and ammunition on him. They also spotted a gun in a nearby car.
The man was arrested and officers seized a .22 calibre handgun, shotgun, what they believe to be drugs, cell phones, $445 and other drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Christopher Allan Moubray faces six weapons-related offences and remains in custody pending a bail hearing on July 4.
Man flees from police on stolen motorcycle
Police have recovered one of two motorcyles stolen from a Fruitvale-area business in April, but a suspect remains at large after jumping down a bank to escape police.
RCMP say they received a report Friday about a 28-year-old Trail man riding an unlicensed dirt bike on Nelson Avenue. An officer spotted him near the intersection of Lookout Street and Warren Lake and turned on the flashing lights on his car.
The man drove to the end of Warren Lane, left the bike at the end of a dead end street, then jumped 30 feet (nine metres) down an embankment and ran away.
The officer didn’t chance after him, but recovered the bike. Police are pursuing charges against the suspect, who remains at large.
Toxic drugs cause nearly 35 overdoses
Police say there have been nearly 35 drug overdoses since last Wednesday as a result of an extremely dangerous drug supply. Interior Health issued a warning last week about down with potentially lethal concentrations of fluorofentanyl benzodiazepines.
RCMP they responded to some of those overdoses over the weekend, although none have been reported as fatal.
Citizens’ quick actions save a life
RCMP are thanking bystanders who prevented a 33-year-old Trail woman from jumping off the Victoria Street bridge on Friday morning.
They convinced her to return to the bridge deck after she put one leg over the safety railing and indicated she might harm herself.
Officers apprehended HER under the Mental Health Act and took her to hospital for assessment.
“We would like to thank the compassion and quick action of the bystanders who intervened in the woman’s moment of crisis,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said. “Anyone can become a hero through acts a simple as kindness, caring, and compassion.”
Beware social media scam
A Montrose woman has fallen victim to a social media scam.
Police say she transferred $5,000 electronically to someone at a fake company that promised to send her $82,000 in return.
Police could only give her advise on how to avoid further scams.
“Police cannot recover money sent electronically or through gift cards over social media,” Wicentowich said. “Please keep it in mind that once you send the money it is gone for good. No one is going to send you more money in return. Every year thousands of people fall victim to this simple scam.”
