New conservation tax available to all to use:Area A Director

The rural director for the east shore of Kootenay Lake will be talking to residents who rejected the idea of paying a tax for a conservation fund.

The referendum Saturday passed because collectively areas A,D and E secured a narrow majority of “yes” votes, even though Garry Jackman’s area just failed to secure the 50% affirmation.

Property owners will now pay about $15 a year for ten years towards the fund.

That money will leverage bigger dollars for local conservation and ecological work.
