UPDATED: RDCK chair, vice-chair re-elected

The Regional District of Central Kootenay board will stick with the same chair and vice-chair for another year.

Nakusp mayor Karen Hamling was re-elected as chair over East Shore director Gary Jackman. It will be her fourth straight year.

Hamling says she welcomed the election.

There was a three-way race for vice chair which Castlegar mayor Lawrence Chernoff won.

He was chosen over rural Creston director Tanya Wall and Slocan Valley director Walter Popoff.

Popoff and Wall actually tied on the first ballot. Wall’s name was then picked out of a hat for the run-off vote.

But Hamling says some directors didn’t like that the outcome partly hinged on the luck of the draw.
