Rural fire insurance premiums shouldn't be rising: RDCK

The Chair of the RDCK says it’s crucial the Province comes to the aid of rural homeowners regarding spiraling insurance premiums.

John Kettle says recent changes to the formula used by the Fire Underwriters Survey to guide insurance companies regarding rural fire risk and response distances is not fair – nor are they independent.


Kettle says volunteer fire departments are fast and efficient and there’s no reason why premiums should be escalating.

The RDCK is to ask Columbia Basin Trust to do a feasiblity study on a unique rural homeowners insurance program.
