Kootenay unemployment rate held steady in June

There’s good news and bad news about the Kootenay unemployment rate last month.

Statistics Canada says it stood at 7.5 per cent, unchanged from the same time last year.

That was the highest in BC.

But the number of people working grew by more than 5,000 over the same period of 2016.

The number looking for work was up 500.

The province-wide unemployment rate in June was 5.1 per cent and the national rate was 6.5 per cent.
