Snowpack levels above normal

Snowpack levels in our West Kootenay and Boundary region are about 10% above normal, and a full 30% above where they were this time last year.

Here’s Dave Chapman the head of the BC River Forecast Centre.

Chapman says we generally see half of the winter snowpack by this stage of January.

The forecast centre monitors snowpack to get a sense of what sort of freshet we’re likely to have come May and June.

The Similkameen region currently has the highest snowpack at 143% of normal.
