Upgrades to area power lines

Nelson Hydro will be tackling some much-needed line upgrades to three outlying communities.

That’s mainly due to wildfire threat.

Older lesser kilovolt lines are still used in the Grohman, Marsden Road and Sproule Creek communities.

Line Manager Doug Pickard says the new higher voltage lines are better in terms of fire threat.

Hydro companies can be held liable for wildfire costs if they have not shown due diligence in reducing sparking risks.
