UPDATED: Drowning victim found in Salmo River

Shambhala Music Festival has released a statement on Instagram stating the body of the 43-year old Calgary man pulled from the Salmo River on Monday was a crew member.

“It is with the deep sadness that Shambhala Music Festival must share the news of a tragic loss of life on the Salmo River adjacent to the festival grounds,” they wrote.

“With heavy hearts, we confirm that it was a beloved member of our crew, who’s family has been informed of their passing.”

In the post, Shambhala stated the man had been involved with the festival for years.

Divers contracted by the Shambhala Music Festival to recover garbage from the river during the festival found the man on Monday.

Police say the divers brought him to shore, where unsuccessful efforts were made to revive him. Although the man has been identified, Shambhala stated his name and further details will not be released out of respect for his family.

RCMP believe he drowned and don’t suspect foul play.
