West Kootenay heat wave hits new heights -again

West Kootenay communities have smashed daily temperature records for the second day in a row.

According to Environment Canada, June 10 was so sizzling hot it broke 10-year daily temperature records in the Castlegar, Trail, and Nelson areas.

Nelson reached 34.8 C on Tuesday (up from 32.8 C), while Castlegar set a new record of 34.8 C (previously 30.2 C), and Trail re-wrote its 2015 record of 33.6 C when it reached 35.6 C.

The region has been under an early-season heat warning since last week, although Environment Canada is forecasting a gradual cooling trend to hit the region later this week.
