Castlegar RCMP fully staffed

Unlike the Nelson Police Department, Castlegar’s RCMP force is fully staffed.

Castlegar RCMP Staff Sergeant Monty Taylor told council on Monday that the detachment currently has a full complement of members. He also mentioned that Castlegar’s officers have the option of helping fill shifts in Nelson, as the local department grapples with unforeseen staffing shortages.

“Our members have the ability to go work overtime there [in Nelson]. So they’d be working on their days off, but it’s optional. They can’t be made to do it,” he said.

Taylor says the staffing issues in Nelson shouldn’t impact the Castlegar RCMP detachment at all, but explained that Nelson Police have applied to the province to utilize provincial resources – which is the RCMP.
