Trail RCMP investigating assault at Beaver Valley hockey game

Trail RCMP officers are investigating an alleged assault that occurred during a hockey game in Fruitvale on March 18.

The detachment received reports of the incident on March 20, alleging that a 47-year-old Fruitvale man was assaulted during the third period of a hockey game at the Beaver Valley Arena between 7 and 10 p.m. on March 18.

Police say a dispute broke out between the Fruitvale man and another man from Grand Forks over the use of an air horn, which escalated into a physical altercation between the two.

The Fruitvale man was allegedly violently thrown to the ground and sustained serious injuries as a result. He was transported to hospital for immediate medical attention, where he remains in serious condition.

Trail RCMP hope to speak to the Grand Forks man involved in the incident. He is believed to be between 40 and 50 years old.

The investigation is ongoing, and Trail RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about what occurred to contact the Trail detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to the investigator.
